MECHANICAL ENGINEER – HVAC SPECIALIST

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Developing preliminary design and engineering specifications, for HVAC, Chilled Water, Stream and Plumbing systems
  • Advanced equipment selection and analysis – chillers, boilers, heaters, exchangers, reformers, pressure vessels and internals, tanks, valves, cooling towers, control rooms, expanders, compressors, blowers, pumps, CHP systems, steam systems, packaged equipment, etc.
  • Be mechanically inclined with knowledge and sizing experience in the plumbing and mechanical fields, and continue to develop these skills through daily work and continuous product training;
  • Provide customer support and technical information about products, product applications and sizing to Mechanical Engineers and Architects, and Interior Designers;
  • Prepare mechanical and architectural product specifications, design development, outline and design-build specifications for commercial projects across North America and the Caribbean;
  • Research and evaluate construction materials and products to satisfy the end user’s needs, as well as to comply with the building code pertinent to the project location, and other regulations.
  • QA/QC reviews of all specifications, drawings, and calculations by other Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
  • Participate in the development of P&ID’s, project schedules, budgets, staffing planning.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (MEP) in Ontario;
  • At least 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience;
  • Experience with CHP/CCHP systems is an asset.
  • Background and familiarity of Building Codes and Standards;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent fluency in English;
  • Strong written abilities needed for internal and external purposes;
  • Superior organizational skills and be tech savvy with excellent abilities using MS Office;
  • Professional demeanor and appearance;
  • Previous experience as a technical specialist (is an asset);
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office

MECHANICAL ENGINEER – PIPING SPECIALIST

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generate CAD drawings (orthographic, plans and sections, and isometrics) to support engineering, interacts with other departments and/or suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
  • Interacts with Project Managers to complete project scope related to drawing requirements, may be required to run prints and other Project Document deliverables or assist to prepare documentation packages for issue.
  • Piping/mechanical designer will create, maintain and update engineering drawings including piping plans, details, and schematics, equipment layouts, and P&IDs for company pipelines, terminals, and pump stations.
  • Designer will assist engineers and field personnel with the design and revisions of pipeline pumping station and terminal drawings.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of company design standards. Field work is required that consists of walk-downs of facilities with field personnel to mark-up and revise required drawings.
  • Complete Piping Design and Layouts in accordance with Industry Practices using 2D & 3D Software.
  • Prepare construction documents which includes General Arrangements, Piping Isometrics, & Piping Plans.
  • Prepare material takeoffs of partial or complete projects.
  • Check and verify the discipline design on projects.
  • Prepare design sketches for use by drafting personnel.
  • Check vendor shop drawings and construction drawings.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;

PARALEGAL

Duties & Responsibilities:

Supports the organization in the formulation, drafting, negotiation and review of contracts, clauses, and amendments, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Proposals received or submitted by VIRTUAL, in consultation with the applicable VIRTUAL functional units and any legal counsel (internal, external or retained), as well as contributing to approvals and close-out of all contracts and like agreements entered into by VIRTUAL, to help with (non-exhaustive):

  • Effectively addressing the business needs
  • Compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Effective management of legal and business risks
  • Protection of VIRTUAL intellectual property
  • Reviews contracts for adequacy, appropriateness and completeness in terms of indemnity, liability, confidentiality, intellectual property protection, deliverables, payment terms, regulatory compliance, and any other applicable issues that may pose legal or business risk for VIRTUAL, to help ensure the contracts are in compliance with VIRTUAL policies and practice.
  • Ensures timely contracts review to meet the needs of the business units. Assists in identifying other areas or functional units (i.e. IT, Purchasing, Marketing) that have a material interest in the contract, or whose involvement is required to adequately assess and mitigate the risks identified in accordance with VIRTUAL policies.
  • Participates in the review, development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures as necessary to effectively manage risk.
  • In collaboration with VIRTUAL Legal Counsel, develops, modifies, and evaluates template contracts and other tools designed to standardize and simplify the contracting process.
  • Provides input to the design, development, implementation and ongoing maintenance and operation of systems to meet contract and other legal document management needs of VIRTUAL and to help ensure compliance with records management policies and procedures.
  • Develops and delivers training for the business units on contract related policies, procedures, templates, tools and systems, and provides advice and guidance as required.
  • Continually seeks opportunities and makes recommendations for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of processes to mitigate risks through application of sound contract and records management practices, and for improving contract and records management policies, procedures and practices.
  • Liaises with the business to assist the Legal and Brand Protection Departments to predict future resource requirements for contract drafting, review and approvals; provides input to business planning, budgets and resource determinations accordingly.
  • Draft correspondence and perform general office and clerical duties and administrative tasks
  • Provide support and assistance in preparing correspondence, and assisting in creating legal materials
  • Receive telephone calls and relay information and personally handle calls of a routine nature
  • Responsible for photocopying and organizing correspondence, files and other materials, and provide administrative support
  • Human resources support such as: updating policy manuals and benefits administration
  • Document/docket management

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, College Diploma or equivalent experience in the field of contract management and/or as a paralegal
  • Legal degree or business degree would be an asset
  • 2-5 years of experience in contract management, including drafting and/or evaluating RFPs, Proposals, Contracts and Amendments.
  • Experience in negotiating contractual terms with a third party on behalf of a client
  • Experience in preparing policies and procedures
  • Experience in developing and delivering training
  • Experience working with governments and not-for-profit organizations would be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of agreement types, including procurement contracts, service agreements, and non-monetary agreements such as copyright agreements, non-disclosure agreements, memoranda of understanding, etc.

ESTIMATOR

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full quotations based on conceptual, design-build or general tender work.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts.
  • Study and analyze proposals received.
  • Present estimates and conduct review meetings with clients.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Determine material, equipment, labour requirements, sequence of operations, projected timelines and prepare a detailed proposal
  • Prepare cost summaries that include costs of subcontracts, overhead, taxes, insurance, markup and anything that might affect the cost of a project including indirect and distributable costs
  • Work with purchasing department to develop purchasing strategies and lock in pricing with vendors
  • Prepare documents and agreements for subcontractors
  • Develop and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Maintain a database of material and equipment costs and labour productivity data from completed projects for future reference
  • Consult with engineers, owners, contractors and subcontractors
  • Transfer successful quotes to project management. Assist in the project start up. Liaison contract conditions and project time lines as they change.
  • Prepare materials, labour and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out a construction project according to proposals, plans, estimates and specifications.
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Assist in the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.
  • Effectively determine bid strategies required for the company to be successful.
  • Provide technical assistance as required in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc.
  • Establish unit costs, labour rates and productivity factors
  • Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation and contingency.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in an Engineering discipline, Technology Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience within an EPC or fabrication environment
  • Experience with RFQ process
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent fluency in English;
  • Strong written abilities needed for internal and external purposes;
  • Superior organizational skills and be tech savvy with excellent abilities using MS Office;
  • Professional demeanor and appearance;
  • Proficient with MS Office
